Acupuncture for Fertility in Cliffside Park, NJ

If you're trying to conceive, the most useful thing acupuncture does is get your whole body out of survival mode. The body prioritizes staying afloat over reproducing — so poor sleep, chronic pain, or digestion that never settles all compete with fertility for the same finite energy. At AcuGenie in Cliffside Park, that's where I start.

Does acupuncture help with fertility?

It depends on what's in the way. Where there's a structural blockage — congenital, or from trauma or surgery — acupuncture can't move it, and you need a reproductive specialist. Where reproductive function is impaired but intact, such as irregular or painful cycles, the work is to restore that function directly.

And where everything looks normal on paper but nothing is happening, the work is broader: helping the body stop struggling through the day, so it has something left over.

I won't promise you a pregnancy. Nobody honestly can. What I can tell you is what I'm treating and why, and whether it's changing.

What I treat

  • Preparing the body before you start trying
  • Irregular, absent, or painful cycles
  • Support through IVF and IUI cycles
  • Recurrent miscarriage, alongside medical care
  • PCOS and endometriosis symptoms
  • Male factor — sperm quality and count
  • Care during pregnancy including breech baby, preparation for birth, and postpartum care

How I approach fertility treatment

Traditional Chinese Medicine has a doctrine I keep coming back to: treat the same condition differently when the roots differ, and different conditions the same when the root is shared. Fertility is no exception — I treat it the way I treat anything else, by finding what your body is struggling with.

That means treatment shifts every visit. Where you are in your cycle changes what I do. So does how you slept the night before, whether your digestion is moving, and how your other conditions are behaving that week. Two people trying to conceive with the same diagnosis can need entirely different treatment.

Part of my job is teaching you to read your own signals — what your cycle, your sleep, and your energy are telling you between appointments. Patients aren't trained to interpret those; we are. You'll leave knowing what to watch.

When should I start?

As soon as possible. People often call and ask when the right moment is to begin, and the honest answer is that the body is never in perfect balance for long — there's always something worth working on before you start trying.

If you're already trying, start now. If you're planning IVF, three months before your cycle begins gives enough time to work on sleep, stress, and cycle regularity. If you're mid-cycle already, that's fine too — we work with where you are.

Acupuncture and IVF

I work alongside your fertility clinic, not instead of it. Tell me your protocol and where you are in it, and I'll treat around it — your medications, your monitoring schedule, your transfer date.

Be careful with anyone who promises acupuncture will raise your success rate. The research on acupuncture around embryo transfer is genuinely mixed, and I'd rather tell you that than sell you a number. What patients consistently report is sleeping better, feeling less wound up, and handling a hard process with more steadiness — which matters on its own during a stretch when very little feels controllable.

Insurance and cost

Many plans cover acupuncture, though fertility-related visits vary more than pain does. Send your personal information and insurance details through our secure intake form and I'll verify your benefits before we begin, so you know your cost up front.

Common questions

How long before IVF should I start acupuncture?

Three months before your cycle starts is a good target — long enough to work on sleep, stress, and cycle regularity before the medications begin. If your transfer is sooner than that, it's still worth coming; we just focus on getting you through the cycle steadily rather than on longer-term groundwork.

Can acupuncture help with irregular periods?

This is one of the clearest places acupuncture helps. Irregular, absent, or painful cycles are a functional problem, and restoring function is what the treatment is for. Most patients track their cycles while we work, so we can both see whether anything is actually changing rather than guessing.

Is acupuncture safe during pregnancy?

Yes, with a practitioner trained in it. Certain points are avoided during pregnancy, and treatment changes by trimester. Tell me as soon as you have a positive test so I can adjust what I'm doing. Many patients continue through pregnancy for nausea, back pain, and sleep.

Does acupuncture help male fertility?

It can. Sperm quality responds to sleep, stress, heat, and circulation — all things acupuncture and habit changes can influence. Sperm takes about three months to develop, so treatment needs that long before it shows on a semen analysis. Both partners are welcome to come in.

Can I keep coming after I get a positive test?

Yes, and many patients do. The first trimester is when nausea, fatigue, and anxiety are usually worst, and acupuncture helps with all three. Treatment changes once you're pregnant — different points, gentler approach — so let me know as soon as you know.

Book a visit

Book online or call 646-801-3636. If you're not sure whether acupuncture fits where you are right now — still planning, mid-IVF, or somewhere in between — call and ask. I'd rather talk it through than book a visit that won't help.
